Week 71 - October 4, 2021

MANENO YA NABII

This week was a little slower than normal, but still super crazy!

But, I think the best part of this week was General Conference!  I literally love General Conference so so much.  I feel like it's a time where I can just bring my questions to God, and get amazing answers right back.  I watched all of the sessions, and each one was so good.  If you have no idea what General Conference is, it's a conference that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does every six months where the prophets and apostles address the entire world and speak on subjects that affect our everyday lives in the 21st century.  I have such a strong testimony that those men and women speak for God. I went in with a few questions, and I feel like something in each talk mentioned and helped me understand those things.  What an awesome experience it is to hear and see modern day prophets.

We did some service this week as we helped to pick up some donations for a refugee family!  The people donating things had so much stuff, so we used three Chevy Equinox cars filled to the brim, and a 12-foot trailer to get it all where it needed to go.  So, we drove our car from Kimberly to Twin Falls FILLED to where we couldn't really see much, but we did it!  It was great haha.

I, also, got to pick out all the stuff to use for an incoming home which was super fun too!

Honestly, pretty much every member that we ate with this week fed us salad and I was so happy. ,I have missed the healthier foods, not that I don't appreciate when other people feed us, but I really loved having the salads haha.  So, blessing in disguise!

This week was a little slower because my companions weren't feeling well, but we got the chance to do a lot of good study and planning!  We got to a super-detailed planning of my last few weeks so that we could make sure I get everything done before I leave!! :( It's quite long, but we are determined!

Here's some other random events from this week:

- we went to Dutch Bros two days in a row this week (you GOTTA get those stickers), and both times, we were behind the EXACT same car.  What an iconic day(s).
- someone delivered a chicken, rice, mayo, pineapple, grape, apple salad to us.  It was a very odd combo.
-we are teaching a lesson to seminary students soon, and our lesson plan starts with us asking them, "Who here has any friends?" and then throwing one of the 6,000 M&M packages the mission ordered at them.
- Sister Bailey and I had a day where she had been out for 33 days, and I had 33 days left.  On the same day.
- we set a companionship goal to "cry" more often, but only at the temple
- we made cookies out of plants.  They were fantastic.
- A man told us about his intense fear of Zebras.
- This same man said that he knew English class was canceled because Mahmoud told him the prophet was talking.
- I've now become the designated cook in the household.  I know I know, thanks for being so proud.
- I made African and Haitain food for this white woman and she loved it
- I played, "What are the odds?" with a 9-year-old and he lost, so now he has to get baptized, I don't make the rules
- we are working on creating an Arabic magnet ward!
- the stake presidency said they'd miss me
- the entire world shut down today, so that's great
- I picked an apple off a tree and an earwig climbed out of it

Well, here's my spiritual thoughts for the week!

General Conference was amazing.  I especially loved Elder Renlund's talk from the Sunday Morning session.  He talked about unity.  He talked about how, even with differences, we can turn our hearts to one another and love each other despite our differences.  CONTENTION IS NOT OF GOD. The world is negative, dark, and honestly crazy right now. But, we can be a light to so many others, and break up a little bit of that darkness.  We need to try to limit contention and focus on things that matter most.

Another talk that I loved was the one by Brad Wilcox.  He talked about how "worthiness is not flawlessness."  WE ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE PERFECT, but we are expected to progress!  And, as many other talks emphasized, we can progress slowly, and keep trying everyday, and eventually you will grow.  It also doesn't matter where you started, but where you are headed.

Finally, I loved the talk from President Nelson.  He discussed the need for a firm foundation.  He told us that we need to remember our covenants and all the other basics of the gospel.  Focus first on strengthening your foundation, and then no matter what comes, you can stand firm.  And trust me, a lot is gonna come, so you'll wanna be strong!

I love you all!  You all are amazing, and just so you know, I have flight plans!  If you are gonna be in Utah on November 3rd around 7:20 am, and wanna see me at the airport, pull up!  I can't wait to give you all hugs.

Another week done and gone.  Dang.
